How to Have Hope, When You Can’t See Past the Pain

If there was just a reset button on life, then maybe you could see how to have hope. I recently started re-reading one of my favorite books by Chrystal Hurst “She’s Still There” (if you haven’t read this book, its a must-read), and she asked a question.

Do you believe in the idea of a masterpiece for your life?

After I struggled with depression, for years, I couldn’t dream or even consider that my life would ever be better than that moment, let alone a masterpiece. I would keep “doing the work” of trying to find hope in every day. During a recent conversation with a friend about future goals, I realized just how deep this thought was in my life. The fear of trusting myself to believe in anything more significant than my current reality held me back from seeing my life masterpiece.

As Chrystal says in the book, “You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.”

How to Have Hope, When You Can’t See Past The Pain

If you follow me on Instagram, then you have heard me say, “do the work.” This mantra applies to whatever situation you are in because the truth is everything worth having takes work.  Know that the opportunity to “do the work” is a blessing because it means that you are still alive. It’s a beautiful thing on the other side of deciding to take the next step.

  • Seek Wise Counsel. Find someone who has been through what you are up against and  learn from them.
  • Let Go of Judgement! Give yourself a little grace and know that you are doing the best you can at this moment.
  • Keep Doing the Work! Most things don’t happen over night. So remember the results will come but just keep doing the work everyday.
