Before we jump into how to be a confident woman, let’s take a moment to define self-confidence and address some common myths about being confident.
What is self-confidence?
Self-confidence is not about being perfect or arrogant; it is the foundation of your beliefs about your abilities, qualities, and judgment.
Simply put, this is who you are without the influence of other people.
Are you born confident?
I believe we are all born confident, but we are sometimes left questioning our confidence with the ups and downs of life.
When You’re confident, You won’t feel afraid or nervous.
This myth is the biggest of them all. Also, areas of confidence waiver with experience, being afraid or nervous is human. Remember, confident people are not always sure.
Five Ways to Build Your Confidence
- Make a Decision
- Avoid Procrastination
- Smile at Yourself in the Mirror
- Talk to Yourself
- Give Yourself a Chance
Now that I’ve shared five ways to build your confidence let’s take a deep dive into each scenario.
Make a Decision
Confident people make decisions. Don’t rely on others to make every decision for you. So the next time someone asks you for a dinner suggestion, make the decision.
Procrastination is typically a sign of anxiety about the outcome of a situation. Being a confident woman means acting even if they are unsure. You may not get it right the first time, but you will learn from every experience.
Smile at Yourself in the Mirror
Starting your day with a smile is good for the soul and an instant confidence booster! Just try smiling at yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning for 21 days.
Talk to Yourself
This practice was the key I used to fight back from a deep depression a few years ago. I would record video diaries of myself using my iPhone, talking through my thoughts. Later on, I would watch the videos, and it was so empowering to hear the emotions and see my progress along the journey.
Give Yourself a Chance
Being a confident woman does not happen overnight. It is a journey and takes practice. So give yourself a chance to live to your full potential by taking it one step at a time. Start with these steps, and once you complete each one, does it again.
